Same Sex Marriage, Civil Rights and Civility

The times they are a changin'. Or are they? Bob Dylan's popular 60's song plays well these days as we grapple to find the lines with regards to moral and social change. One such area is the question of whether marriage is a right reserved exclusively for a man and a woman, or whether same-sex relationships should be given the same privilege. No doubt this issue will end up dividing churches, families and friends. Where do you stand and why? What compass will you use to navigate through the challenges facing marriage? Can people from differing viewpoints sit down and have a civil discussion?

The Institute for the Theology of Culture: New Wine, New Wineskins of Multnomah Biblical Seminary has put together an event to explore the complex issue of Gay Marriage. "Same Sex Marriage, Civil Rights and Civility" is a two-day conference. The conference will feature a diverse panel representing all sides of the debate on Friday evening, October 22nd. This will be followed by a daylong series of presentations on Saturday, October 23rd aimed at providing an Evangelical perspective on the subject of same sex marriage and how to live as salt and light in today's changing culture.

The conference will take place in L101 of Mitchell Library on the campus of Multnomah Bible College and Biblical Seminary located at 8435 NE Glisan St. (Please park on Glisan Street or at Central Bible Church located at 90th and Glisan.) A flier and itinerary for the conference are enclosed. The cost for Friday evening is $5.00 per person. For Saturday's series of presentations, the cost is $5.00 for students and $10.00 for non-students. Seating is limited. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the seminary reception desk or at the door prior to events. For more information, please call Tracy Spitler, New Wine's Coordinator, at 503-251-6767.
