New Wine, New Wineskins’ Spring conference “Bound—the Global Slave Trade” will be held Saturday, April 12,
2008 at Multnomah Bible College & Biblical Seminary. “Bound” will focus on the present day slave trade:
human trafficking, sex slavery, and consumerism on global, local, and personal levels. Speakers include Chris Carey
of The Daywalka Foundation, Linda Smith of Shared Hope International, and Paul Louis Metzger of
Multnomah Biblical Seminary.
Dr. Paul Louis Metzger, Director of The Institute for the Theology of Culture: New Wine, New Wineskins of Multnomah Biblical Seminary will be officially launching his strategic ministry partnership with Dr. John M. Perkins in Portland, Oregon in February 2008 titled "Drum Majors for Truth and Justice." Dr. Perkins is the Founder of the John M. Perkins Foundation for Reconciliation and Development and author of numerous books (including his autobiography, Let Justice Roll Down). Dr. Perkins has served as an advisor to several US Presidents on poverty related matters. In the words of Dr. Metzger, “We want to inspire people across the nation to pursue a biblical vision of truth and justice where the all-consuming love of Jesus consumes those things that divide us like race and class barriers.” To kick off the partnership, Drs. Perkins and Metzger will be speaking at all three services at Imago Dei Community in Portland on Sunday, February 17th, and at Multnomah’s chapel service at 10 AM on Tuesday, February 19th at Central Bible Church. Other events related to the launch include Dr. Metzger’s book reading event at Powell's for his new book, Consuming Jesus: Beyond Race and Class Divisions in a Consumer Church, for which Dr. Perkins wrote the afterword. The book reading event will take place Wednesday, February 13th at 7:30 PM at Powell's downtown store at 1005 W. Burnside.
